Peckham Rye Suits

Messrs. Tommy & Charlie McCarthy of London  –
Tailors to the Empire since 1813

My grandfather Frankie, himself a cutter always maintained “a gentleman should dress just a little bit above his station in life and in that way people will think no less of him”.

It is through these words that we continue to base our entire approach to tailoring on.

As such our suits - be they fully bespoke or from our personal made –to-measure tailoring service – are amongst the most carefully crafted garments produced by us.

Working with many of Great Britain’s most exclusive woollen mills and weavers the family tailoring firm of Tommy & Charlie McCarthy is proudly assisting officers and gentlemen in creating lasting styles from quality weight woollens and fine super gauge cloth.

Our 303 styled suit block, so called as it was Charlie’s regimental serial number given him at 14 when he joined the Royal Fusiliers as a tailor is a testimony to our many years in the trade here in London, preceding Charlie was his elder brother Flowime a tailor with the legendary Bengal Horse Artillery – the finest dressed regiment the world had ever seen, with the boys work overseen by their father Tommy McCarthy himself a tailor with the East India Company from 1813.

From the very start of selecting the cloth’s colour and weight to the measuring, discussing the various aspects of subtle finishes to be included when cutting; be they turned back cuffs (ideal for cavalry offices carrying the orders of the day to the front on horseback!), covered buttons, shawl collars, side straps and bar tacked hand sewn button holes,  to the precise measurements being taken by tailors at our London fitting rooms, to the first fitting and finally to collection itself , we pride ourselves on making this a most noteworthy and enjoyable experience.

Our label proudly displays the Bengal Tiger emblem which is taken from Tommy’s own watch chain  coin which was a tradition amongst soldiers  of the East India Co. when joining the ranks, and today is our house marque of distinction that has two hundred years of service behind it.

We look forward to welcoming you to our tailoring in London or at a location convenient to you.
