At Peckham Rye we’re very proud of our 200 year heritage of fine tailoring.
We are the sixth generation of a Victorian London tailoring family, maintaining all the traditions, craft and styling of the true London cut.
We’ve come a long way since Tommy McCarthy started out as a tailor in London in 1813. Since then, Peckham Rye has grown from a one man business into a company recognised across the world. We create exclusively tailored clothes and accessories for a varied clientele that includes royalty and celebrities.
Our name comes from the Cockney rhyming slang for ‘tie’ and just like our name, our history is steeped in London history. Our rich heritage in Britain’s capital city extends from our East End origins at the start of the eighteenth century right up to today, with our flagship store in London’s Newburgh Street.
During our history, our ancestors have been involved with many trades within the clothing world besides gentlemen’s tailoring. The Peckham Rye family tree features hat makers, pleaters, draper’s merchants, skirt hands and tie makers in England, Ontario, Gibraltar, Malta, Virginia and Bangalore (travel arrangements courtesy of the East India Company and the British Army!). The current generation of the Peckham Rye family learned their tie making skills in London’s prestigious Savile Row. Throughout our evolution we have remained a family business at heart. Our personal approach to taking care of our customers also remains the same today.
We put our 200 years tailoring expertise into every garment we produce. Time may have moved on, but the demand for exceptional finish, high quality materials and enduring style has not.
